Fish The Top End

When the weather warms up so does the Barra fishing. The neap tides during these warmer months consistently deliver good Barra fishing with fish over the magic metre mark being not an unexpected catch.

If you would like to experience fishing the build up, there are two slots in october for either a 7 or 8 day "live aboard" Charter on the Mothership Island Explorer.

Corroboree Spinner Baits

Spinner Baits are used extensively by Bass & Murray Cod fishermen in the Southern States but they are also dynamite on Saratoga.

Armed with AusSpin Lures spinner baits the plan for the day was to try for a few Barra on hard bodied lures and then hit the toga with spinner baits.

With the new digital camera on board I was also keen to get a few photo's of Corroboree which is one of the most scenic locations you could possibly find to spend a day out fishing.

Casting hard bodies accounted for 8 or so small Barra's so it was onto the Toga. We spent a couple of hours casting spinner baits with Saratoga smashing them on a regular basis. On hookup the fish would often leap from the water clearing it by a couple of feet. With around a dozen toga caught and released we decided to head for the Tavern for lunch and were back in Darwin by 2pm. A top morning out in the Top End.

The fishing in Darwin harbour varies with the seasons and the tides but at all times there are great sport fishing opportunities on hand.
